Tidbits

Salon de Soleil (pronounced so-lay) means "salon of the sun" in french. 

Since the original salon started in the lower level, Shelly and Sue thought the name would bring some "light" to the space as well as provide a decorating theme.

Our Business

We have celebrated over 4 years of being open for business.  During that time we have expanded, and are now located on the main level of the building.

Who We Are

Sue Ballard- Cosmetologist/Owner

*SPECIALIZES IN CUSTOM HAIRCUTS, FOILS, AND GEL NAILS

Originally from Spokane, WA -Sue has 19 years of experience in the hair industry.  She graduated from The Hair Designer's Academy in Grand Forks, ND, and managed the Ellsworth Airforce Base Beauty Salon for 7 years before starting her own business.  Sue brings an art background to Salon de Soleil; prior to pursuing a career in hair she attended classes for graphic design.  This background comes through in her hair transformations and the jewelry she loves to design.         

Shelly White- Cosmetologist

*SPECIALIZES IN CUSTOM COLOR FORMULATIONS AND RAZOR HAIRCUTS

Originally from Nebraska -Shelly has been doing hair since 2000.  She started her career in Lincoln, NE, at the College of Hair Design and graduated from Black Hills Beauty College here in Rapid City.  Prior to opening Salon de Soleil with Sue in May 2007, she worked for Regis Corporation managing the salon in Rapid City and Mia & Maxx Salon in Omaha, NE.  Shelly has a natural talent for design whether it be formulating a new color or style for one of her clients or interior decorating.  To schedule an appointment with Shelly you can reach her directly at 605-209-1177.

Iolla Houchin- Nail Technician

*SPECIALIZES IN ACRYLIC AND FIBERGLASS NAILS

"Over the many years I have been in the industry I have worked in salons located in Sturgis and Rapid City, as well as instructed at Headlines Academy. 

I love it here.  I work with a great bunch of people - skilled & professional - in at atmosphere that encourages creativity & fun.

At present, I specialize in nails - both acrylic and fiber enhancements, as well as manicures.  My award winning nail art is fun & diverse.
